The Studio Notes section of Whirrings is a digital sketchbook of my daily studio practice.
I’m currently learning how to use my new modular setup. You can read the backstory here, and I thought it would be fun to document the process and some of the patches I make as I go along.
If it’s not for you then you can unsubscribe to just this section “Studio Notes” in your subscription settings, that’s the beauty of Substack!
Thanks as always for tuning in!
I was losing my Marbles but today I’ve made some progress with that!
These patches are again using the Erica Synths Black Wavetable VCO which I’m finding very handy as a beginner as it has so many different voice banks and the ability to modulate through the “waves” in each “table” is very useful. Sequenced by Marbles which is now slightly more under control!
Also roped in Elements and Clouds which are still a mystery and will require much more reading, watching and understanding!

Patch 1 Techno-ish
2hp drums sequenced from PNW. Bass from Black VCO. Top melody line from Elements. Always wanted to spend some time with techno, maybe this modular will be the moment for that?
Patch 2 Somewhat Erratic
Everything running from Marbles. Slightly detuned Clouds not sure what is happening there! Somewhat erratic melodies here but some nice sections!
Great 😃 🎶🎶
