Modular Setup Day One
Getting some sounds routed through the Boss RC-600 as an audio interface.
I intend the Studio Notes section of the site to become a journal of what I’m up to on a day to day basis, to act as both a detailed record of the transient setups and thought processes which I’m usually quite bad at documenting and also to work as inspiration for others.
The only audio interface I currently have for my MacBook Pro is the Boss RC-600 looper—it’s a long story!
It’s actually a surprisingly capable interface, 8 input and 8 output channels which work well with Ableton Live and mirror all the hardware inputs/outputs on the unit.
Although I‘ve been contemplating buying a new mixer/interface, I first wanted to see if I could work with just the RC-600, embrace those limitations! I’m hoping to use it for looping pre and post modular as well as standard multitrack routing.
This is the first chance I’ve had to spend time with the modular since I got it and my aim was just to get some sound going. The RC-600 menus are somewhat confusing and it took me a moment to get back into it but I soon had 3 tracks routed into the computer. I didn’t give it much thought just hooked up some sounds.
There was an annoying ground loop somewhere but I’ll track that down another day.
I also wanted to test triggering an oscillator (Elements) with the CV and gate outs from the MicroFreak.
Tracks:
2hp Kick triggered by PNW* through the Qu-bit Tone into 4ms delay
2hp Hat triggered by PNW into 4ms delay
Elements (Antumbra ATOM) triggered by the arpeggiator on the MicroFreak

Notes:
The 2hp Kick and Hat sound great, very easy to find something I like.
I used the resonance on the Qu-bit Tone to add “notes” into the delay.
Played with the delay times as I wasn’t clocking it to create some loose phasing timings.
I think the Dual Looping Delay is going to become a main tool, it’s very versatile.
I wasn’t expecting much today so I was pleasantly surprised by the result. A quick mix and a few VST tweaks later and here it is. Not bad for a couple of hours work!
